From Owls Head to Union, Midcoast contractors ask a lot of one truck: hauling stone and lumber in the warm months, towing a boat or an excavator trailer, and plowing driveways once the snow starts. The Sierra 2500 HD is built for that range of work. The Sierra 3500 HD is the step up when a body, a plow and a full load all ride on the truck together.
Both share GMC's 6.6L gas V8 or Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel with a 10-speed Allison automatic. The Pro trim is the work-focused Sierra HD; higher trims add comfort for owners who drive the truck home. Ask our commercial team about the cab, bed and engine your work needs.

Rich works with business and fleet customers at Quirk GMC Rockland - from one Sierra for a contractor to several vehicles for a town - and can recommend the right upfit for the work.
Look at payload first. GMC rates the 2500 HD for up to 4,049 lbs and the 3500 HD for up to 7,290 lbs. If a plow, a body and a load will be on the truck at the same time, the 3500 HD leaves the margin you need. Tell us what you carry and we will check the rating on the actual truck.
If heavy trailers are part of most workdays, the Duramax's 975 lb-ft earns its keep. If the truck mainly carries equipment and a moderate load, the 6.6L gas V8 is lighter, which leaves more of the payload rating for your load.
Yes. Quirk sells BOSS snowplows - browse them on the BOSS site linked on this page, then ask our team about fitting one to your Sierra.
That is the top figure for the whole Sierra HD line, reached by a 3500 HD with dual rear wheels and the Duramax. GMC's 2500 HD maximum is 22,390 lbs. Cab, bed, drivetrain and engine all change the number, so we will confirm the rating of the exact truck before you match a trailer to it.
